Roma v Manchester City tips – Aguero-less City heading for defeat
Manchester City needed Sergio Aguero to beat ten-man Bayern and might struggle against Wolves
December 9th, 2014
Nothing less than victory will do if Manchester City are to continue their Champions League adventure, although the English champions have been dealt a cruel blow on the eve of this crunch match in Rome.
Sergio Aguero was Europe’s most deadly assassin before his team’s match against Everton on Saturday although a knee injury means that the Argentine won’t be available for the rest of the year and that could see the balance swing in favour of Roma.
City’s 1-0 win against the Toffees illustrated that Aguero was the man behind big wins against Southampton and Sunderland recently, although Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic are no A-team when it comes to downing a side who will pack a punch in front of their own fans.
Roma have won seven and drawn one of their eight Serie A matches at home this term, with the Italian side beating CSKA Moscow 5-1 earlier in the group stage before a shock 7-1 reversal at the hands of Bayern Munich.
Even so, this is a team unbeaten in their last five matches and they have scored six goals in their past two encounters, with Adem Ljajic rescuing a point against Sassuolo on Saturday after previously beating Inter 4-2.
Francesco Totti is still making this team tick and Gervinho is enjoying a fine season with the Romans, with City unlikely to risk David Silva from the start for this game while Vincent Kompany won’t be completely fit either.
