Roma v Genoa Match Preview
Will Roma clinch the three points on Saturday which will secure second position in Serie A?
May 25th, 2017
Roma remained hot on the heels of Juventus as the season fast approached its conclusion and they beat Massimiliano Allegri’s side to the tune of 3-1 to throw the Italian title race wide open with just one game left to play. Nevertheless with Juventus winning their penultimate league game of the season the best that Roma can achieve is second place although given that they sit just a single point above third-placed Napoli there is clearly no room for complacency ahead of the weekend fixture with Genoa.
Whatever happens this weekend, Roma are assured of a place in the Champions League next season although they would clearly prefer to enter that competition at the group stages as opposed to the qualifying rounds. With that in mind, Roma manager Luciano Spalletti will be expecting nothing less than three points in this weekend clash.
Genoa have failed to impress in Serie A this season and will finish their campaign in the lower reaches of the league table and while they were never in serious danger of dropping down to the second tier of Italian football, they will nevertheless look to bring the curtain down on their campaign by grabbing three points in the capital.
We don’t really fancy the visitors’ chances on this occasion. The prospect of claiming the final Champions League group-stage berth is a massive incentive for the home side and while the home fans will doubtless be watching for the Napoli result with keen interest, we don’t expect Roma to need any favours elsewhere. Indeed with Genoa only scoring twelve times on the road this season, we envisage the home side keeping a clean sheet into the bargain this weekend.
