Roma v Barcelona Tips – Catalans will return home with the points in the bag
Messi & co will be looking to lay down a marker tonight
September 16th, 2015
Barcelona open the defence of their Champions League crown with what will likely be a tough trip to Roma this evening. Luis Enrique’s side are favourites to triumph in the competition, however can the Catalans become the first side since Milan in 1990 to manage back-to-back European titles?
Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. Barcelona have some very tricky matches ahead, starting with Roma this evening, the Serie A side appearing in this tournament for the second successive season. The Italians provide Barca with their biggest obstacle, the other sides in Group E consisting of BATE Boris and Bayer Leverkusen, therefore Luis Enrique will be confident that his side can finish top of their group.
Indeed, Roma haven’t enjoyed too much success at home in European competition of late, suffering defeat in all but two of their home games last season, including a thorough 7/1 thrashing to Bayern Munich.
All eyes will be focused on Lionel Messi, the all-time top scorer in the competition looking to mark his 100th appearance in the Champions League by adding to a goal-tally which currently sits at an astonishing 77. Messi will be joined by Luis Suarez and Neymar and together they will form a formidable front trio for Barcelona.
Roma will be confident of finding a way past the Barcelona defence, mindful that their opponents let in four against Sevilla in the Super Cup last month, however the visitors will ultimately prove far too strong and we can only see one possible outcome tonight as regards the winner.
