Real Madrid v AS Roma betting tips – Back Real to demolish Roma
Real Madrid will be eager to send a message to their main Champions League rivals by demolishing Roma at the Bernabeu tonight.
March 8th, 2016
The season isn’t going too well for Real Madrid at the moment with twelve points separating them from La Liga leaders Barcelona and bitter rivals Atletico sitting some four points ahead of them, Los Galacticos losing to both of these sides at the Bernabeu.
Former manager Rafael Benitez was never a hit with the Real fans and new boss Zidane isn’t endearing himself either with the side returning some excellent performances but sandwiching some dismal displays in between them.
The main chance for redemption is in Europe and Real usually excel in the Champions League with ten triumphs in the competition, the most recent being just two years ago. Indeed, they have looked very much like world beaters this season in Europe with five victories in their six group matches including an impressive 1-0 win over runaway French leaders Paris St Germain.
With nineteen goals in their group games, they qualified in style and Real are third favourites to go all the way this season and clinch for themselves an eleventh European crown. The first leg of this last-sixteen clash saw Real defeated Roma in their own back-yard to the tune of 2-0 and they are attractively priced at 6/1 with Paddy Power to win this season’s Champions League outright.
These odds won’t exactly please the Real supporters, given that they lie far behind Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the betting. Cristiano Ronaldo for one won’t relish his side being considered third best, although he maintains that Real would top the Spanish top-flight were the rest of the team be playing to his high standard. To be honest we can’t disagree with that, given that he put four past Celta Viga in the 7-1 win at the weekend.
Another big win in Europe would signal Real’s intent to the rest of the contenders and unsurprisingly they start this match as 2/5 odds-on favourites to win. This would appear to be a big price, given that there is unquestionably a massive gulf in class between these sides. Roma are far from an elite outfit and they regularly come unstuck against Europe’s best. Bayern put them to the sword 7-1 in last season’s tournament and Barcelona sent them packing to the tune of 6-1 in the current campaign. We expect Real to do something similar in the Bernabeu this evening.
Real have won by more than one goal in all but two of their last six European outings and whilst Los Galacticos may have their flaws, putting inferior opponents to the sword isn’t one of them. We’re anticipating another utterly convincing win this evening for the hosts and this will serve as a stark message to the sides above them in the outright winner betting that Real is far from out of contention.
