This season’s FA Cup is fast approaching its climax with eight sides remaining in contention. Reading may be the lowest-ranked side left but we believe that they will pull off the shock of the quarter-finals by disposing of Premier League side Crystal Palace on Friday evening.

The Royal’s FA Cup campaign started with a tough clash at Huddersfield Town, the Terriers forcing a replay with a 2-2 draw. Reading responded by knocking their Championship rivals out of the tournament at the second time of asking with a seven goal thriller on home soil, running in 5-2 winners at the final whistle with Matej Vydra grabbing three Royals goals. There then followed a 4-0 hammering of Walsall with Vydra once again adding to his goal count with a brace against the Saddlers.

Premier League outfit West Brom were Reading’s opponents in the next round and they were despatched 3-1 with Reading fighting their way back from behind, earning for themselves a place in the quarter-finals.

Nevertheless, they face a tough task on Friday evening when they go head-to-head with Premier League side Crystal Palace, although Alan Pardew’s men have been struggling somewhat of late with a mere three victories from their last fifteen outings in all competitions, these three wins all being in this competition.

The Eagles’ form in the Premier League has been very poor with their last win being a 2-1 triumph at Stoke City before Christmas, however they have certainly impressed in this competition with wins over Southampton, Stoke and Tottenham Hotspur. They will provide extremely tough opposition for the Royals in this last-eight clash but we feel that the hosts will make home advantage count and as such, we’ll be backing a win for the Royals with 888sport going 23/10 for such an outcome.

The Eagles are clearly at their best in this tournament and one would perhaps feel that they would prove too strong for the home side and sweep past the Championship side on their way to the semi-finals. Nevertheless, the Royals are enjoying some decent form at home and one can’t help but feel that the Eagles’ involvement in the FA Cup will draw to a close this week. Back Reading to win and both teams to score at 6/1 with Bet365.
