Rangers v Greenock Morton betting tips – Gers set to open up fifteen point gap
Rangers will move a step closer to the Scottish Premiership this week
March 8th, 2016
Rangers can open up an fifteen point gap at the top of the Scottish Championship when they welcome Greenock Morton to Ibrox on Friday evening.
It has certainly been a long road back to the top for the Gers, however they must now surely see light at the end of the tunnel after a period of four years away from the top flight of Scottish football. Main challengers Hibernian have stumbled in their race for the title with defeats in their last three outings and it is now only a matter of time before the Glasgow giants are guaranteed a place at the top table of Scottish football.
Indeed, Rangers have gone from strength to strength this season with 28 points from their last ten outings, leaving them some twelve points above Hibernian with a game in hand.
The Gers haven’t been beaten in their last fourteen games across all competitions and confidence will understandably be sky-high following the thrashing of Premier League side Dundee in the Scottish Cup. Harry Forrester’s opening goal just thirteen seconds from the start signalled the Ger’s intentions and the Glasgow side went on to produce a thrilling 4-0 win with Jason Holt, Lee Wallace and Andy Halliday producing the other goals.
The reward for this excellent win is a meeting with arch-rivals Celtic in the semi-finals, however boss Mark Warburton insists that this week’s league encounter is the main priority for his side at the moment. Indeed, Rangers will be desperate not to let Hibernian close the gap and will be anxious to use their game in hand to extend their lead to fifteen points.
These sides fought out a 2-2 draw earlier in the season, however given Rangers’ recent excellent run, we expect a relatively straightforward win on Friday with the hosts 2/11 odds-on favourites to seal the three points at Ibrox.
These odds are hardly appealing, therefore we’ll be looking elsewhere for our betting options on this match. With Rangers managing clean sheets in all but two of their last ten games, we’ll be backing them at a tempting 4/5 with Paddy Power to win-to-nil on Friday evening.
Rangers’ top-scorer Martyn Waghorn is out of action through injury and newly-signed Harry Forrester has been given the task of filling his shoes, a task which he has lived up to by scoring in each of his last three games. After an unconvincing start, the ex Doncaster Rovers player is now finding his feet and represents excellent value at 10/11 with Coral on the Anytime Goalscorer market.
