Rangers 8/11 to finish runners-up in the Scottish Premiership
Celtic are a country mile in front at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, however the race for second place is very much alive
January 3rd, 2017
Rangers suffered their third successive defeat to arch-rivals Celtic on New Years’ Eve, however the bookmakers remain confident that Mark Warburton’s men will finish the season as ‘best of the rest’.
The Light Blues suffered a humiliating 5-1 hammering when they went head-to-head with the Hoops in their first Premiership Old Firm game in four years and whilst Rangers showed a much-improved performance in the following meeting between the sides in the League Cup final, Celtic once again proved their dominance by sweeping aside Warbutron’s men to the tune of 1-0 at Ibrox with Moussa Dembele scoring the game’s solitary goal.
Rangers were clearly desperate for revenge as they headed into their final match of 2016 and when Kenny Miller slotted the ball home from a low cross in the twelfth minute, it seemed as though they could be in with a chance of securing the three points.
It wasn’t to be and with Celtic scoring through Dembele and Sinclair, the three points went to the runaway league leaders and the Gers are still searching for their first win against the Hoops this season.
Celtic now enjoy what is certainly an unassailable nineteen-point gap at the top of the league table and Brendan Rodgers’ men are a mere 1/500 to lift the title. The race for second place is still very much alive however and whilst Rangers only sit a mere two points above third-placed Aberdeen in the league table, the Light Blues are 8/11 odds-on with Betfair to finish second in the Scottish Premiership table, Aberdeen third in the betting at 6/4.
Hearts who have attracted a lot of each way support according to free bets now trail the top three by six points, a direct result of a severe dip in form following the loss of previous boss Robbie Neilson to MK Dons. The Jambos have therefore drifted to 28/1 in the Scottish Premiership ‘without Celtic’ market with St Johnstone next at a distant 200/1.
