QPR v Sunderland tips: Back Black Cats to win
Can Sunderland lift their game in Wednesday night's EFL Cup clash?
September 20th, 2016
This could prove to be a real banana skin of a match for a Premier League side which is underperforming of late and Black Cats boss David Moyes will be looking to field his best possible side for this clash.
Sunderland have been having a rather torrid time of things since the start of the season and have yet to pick up their first win. Indeed, with just a single point to their name after five games, it is looking increasingly likely that Moyes’ side will once again be battling against relegation come the end of the season.
With that in mind, Wednesday evening’s match may provide a bit of respite from the drudgery of league action and the visitors to west London will be confident of sweeping past a QPR side which haven’t exactly been setting the Championship alight so far this term.
Rangers kicked off their 2016/17 campaign in decent fashion by thrashing Leeds United 3-0 on the opening weekend of the season, however their last two games have seen them concede eight goals and score just one in reply, an indication perhaps that they won’t be getting anything from this midweek cup tie.
We predicted that QPR could be struggling against relegation at the end of the current season and judging by recent performances we still believe that this will be the case. A 6-0 hammering by Newcastle United was followed by a dismal 2-1 loss to Huddersfield and things really aren’t looking too good for the Loftus Road outfit.
Sunderland will be eager to boost their low confidence at the moment and this may be the sort of opposition who could help them to achieve that. Jermain Defoe may not take part in this clash but there is plenty of talent in the Sunderland ranks who should prove too strong for QPR to contain.
