QPR v Stoke City betting tips – tight game on the cards
Mark Hughes returns to QPR for what should be a game of few goals
September 17th, 2014
QPR went to Old Trafford at the wrong time last Sunday, with an influx of new signings helping Manchester United to earn a 4-0 victory at Old Trafford.
Nevertheless, Harry Redknapp believes that his Rangers team can stay afloat in the Premier League this season and Saturday’s lunchtime encounter against Stoke gives the London side a chance to earn a second consecutive home win.
The two matches thus far at Loftus Road have seen QPR lose 1-0 against Hull before beating Sunderland by the same scoreline. It therefore stands to reason that this will be a low-scoring encounter, especially when you look at Stoke’s results.
Mark Hughes replaced Tony Pulis with the view that the Potters’ brand of football would improve but it’s been much of a muchness, with two 1-0 home defeats at the Britannia being offset by a 1-0 surprise win at Manchester City and a 1-1 draw at Hull.
Therefore, Under 2.5 Goals has to be the way forward in this game and that can be backed at 3/5 with Ladbrokes, while Under 1.5 Goals is worthy of consideration at odds of 7/4.
Loic Remy’s departure clearly deprives QPR of an attacking force and Charlie Austin is now set to carry the can until January, with the former Burnley man set to continue as the lone striker.
Rangers are a 9/5 chance and the same price has been applied to Stoke, with the bookies unable to split two teams who are struggling to find the net, although the draw seems the best value of all at 9/4.
We can take this a step further and back No Goalscorer at 6/1 considering there’s an early desperation for points, with the teams having three and four respectively from their first quartet of games.
Mark Hughes will return to his former club where he struggled to keep QPR in the top flight before Redknapp took the reins and a dour encounter is on the cards.
