Chelsea are now unbeaten since mid-December, a remarkable fact given that they started their Premier League campaign in dismal fashion with defeats to the likes of Crystal Palace, Everton, Southampton and Stoke City.

Jose Mourinho has now gone and those days appear to be firmly in the past. A 5-1 thrashing of Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon lifted the Blues close to the top half of the table for the first time this season and interim manager Guus Hiddink will be confident that this turnaround can be reflected in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Let’s not get too carried away though. It is one thing holding the likes of West Brom and Watford to a draw, however it is another thing entirely getting the better of a PSG side which enjoy a remarkable 24 point lead at the top of Ligue 1 after 26 games.

PSG’s goal-less draw with Lille at the weekend ended an excellent run of sixteen consecutive wins and despite Chelsea improving immeasurably over the past couple of months, we’re in no doubt whatsoever that they are in real danger of suffering a comprehensive defeat in Paris this evening.

The hosts start as firm favourites with Paddy Power going 7/10 for a PSG victory. No surprise there perhaps and while this price may not represent exceptional value, it should nevertheless return some winnings. PSG have been able to rest some of their star players recently, given the massive lead they enjoy in their domestic campaign. Chelsea have had no such luxuries as they attempt to atone for their dismal start to the season. This will certainly make a difference in this clash and it could be an exercise of damage limitation for the visitors.

Obviously we need to look at goalscorers in a PSG win and we won’t be looking past Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Swede banging in nine goals in his eight games prior to the draw with Lille at the weekend. With 27 goals in all competitions this season, we’ll be backing Ibrahimovic at Evens with Ladbrokes on the Anytime Goalscorer market.

These sides met in the Champions League last season, drawing 2-2 at Stamford Bridge and 1-1 in Paris. While we’re not expecting this clash to end in a similar stalemate, we do expect both sides to find the back of the net at some stage of proceedings, therefore our final betting recommendation is backing PSG to win and both teams to score at 7/2 with Betfair.
