Premier League top scorer betting – Jamie Vardy can remain on top
Jamie Vardy has been a goal-scoring sensation so far this season
December 15th, 2015
The list of top scorers in this season’s Premier League certainly makes for interesting reading. Are there any Chelsea players? No. Are there any Manchester United or City players? No. Are there any Arsenal players? Well yes there is Olivier Giroud, however he is in fifth position with nine top-flight goals so far, behind Odion Ighalo of Watford, Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez and Goodison Park favourite Romelu Kukaku.
There are no prizes for guessing who holds the number one position. Former Fleetwood player Jamie Vardy, who else? Vardy has banged in some fifteen Premier League goals since the start of the season for Leicester City and has undoubtedly played a massive part in lifting the Foxes to top spot in the league table as we head into the festive period.
Can he remain in pole position much longer? We don’t see any reason why he won’t continue scoring for fun, given that he has now scored in all but three top flight games this term.
Before the start of the campaign, you could’ve grabbed yourself a huge 250/1 for Jamie Vardy to finish the season as top Premier League goalscorer, a relatively low price when one considers that the Foxes were as much 5000/1 to win the Premier League prior to the start of the campaign.
Times have certainly changed since then. Leicester are now as low as 16/1 to lift the Premier League title following last night’s win over Chelsea at the King Power Stadium, Jamie Vardy himself breaking the deadlock and falling to 15/8 with Boylesports to finish top scorer.
Vardy may occupy top spot in the scoring charts, but Everton’s Romelu Lukaku isn’t too far behind. The Belgian has bagged himself some twelve goals so far in the top flight, however his side are somewhat over-reliant on his services, this reflected in the fact that he has scored nearly half of the Toffees goals so far.
Everton are unbeaten in their last eight games across all competitions, however their relatively meagre league position is a result of them being held to draw after draw, their weekend 1-1 stalemate against Norwich City being their third back-to-back Premier League draw, Lukaku scoring the Toffees goal.
Next in the betting is Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, the Argentinian failing to score in all competitions since his side’s 4-1 hammering at the hands of Liverpool last month. Aguero is up for grabs at 5/1 to become the leading scorer at the end of the season.
Over at White Hart Lane, things appear to have taken a worrying downturn for Spurs of late, the North Londoners having won just once in their last five top flight outings, their most recent result being a 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle. Top scorer Harry Kane has also had a quiet spell in the goalmouth since his brace in the 4-1 win over West Ham in November. As such, he has now fallen to 12/1 with BetVictor to finish the season as top scorer.
We believe that Vardy will remain in pole position for the foreseeable future as he helps keep Leicester City at the top of the Premier League table. Watch out though Jamie, Lukaku isn’t too far behind.
