Watford avoided relegation at the end of 2016/17 with six points separating Walter Mazzarri’s men from the bottom three in the Premier League, however a dismal run of six successive defeats  will certainly be a concern ahead of the new campaign.

Walter Mazzarri is no longer in the Vicarage Road hot-seat having departed the club towards the end of the campaign and former Hull City manager Marco Silva will be taking the reins in time for the start of the new season. The Tigers are facing life in the Championship having finished in the bottom three although there were signs of notable improvement in the side following Silva’s appointment at the KCOM Stadium. Nevertheless wins over the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United weren’t enough to stave off the threat of relegation and Silva will now be inheriting a side which will be in pretty low spirits following their recent poor results.

Troy Deeney is looking set to leave the Hornets during the summer months, leaving the side with a severe lack of firepower up front. Will this prove costly in next season’s top-flight? It could certainly spell the end for any hopes that the club have of remaining in the top-tier for a fourth consecutive term.

The bookies feel that the Hornets will feature amongst the relegation contenders towards the end of 2017/18 with William Hill going just 7/4 that they end up in the Championship with only newly-promoted Brighton & Hove Albion and Burnley at shorter odds.
