Peru v Paraguay Preview and Tips
Will Peru manage a fifth straight win over Paraguay when the sides lock horns on Thursday evening?
June 8th, 2017
Peru and Paraguay sit neck-and-neck in their qualifying group for next summer’s World Cup, goal difference alone separating the sides with Peru sitting seventh on 18 points and Paraguay one place below them with three matches left to play. Peru will be desperate to build up their momentum in this friendly encounter and with five points separating them from the automatic qualification places in their qualifying group, they really need something to boost morale.
Peru have won this fixture in each of the past four occasions with a total of nine goals scored with just two in reply and the visitors head into this match having struggled with some desperately poor form which has seen them lose 3-0 to Brazil and 5-0 to France in their previous two outings. Paraguay have won just three of their last thirteen matches although they did beat Argentina 1-0 last October.
Peru ran out comfortable 4-1 winners in the last exchange between these nations and we expect the home side to make it a fifth in succession on Thursday night. The visitors have been conceding goals with reckless abandon in recent games and while they will have been concentrating on tightening things up in defence, we expect the hosts to find a way through.
Both sides will be desperate to steer their way into the 2018 World Cup finals but clearly they need to up their game and a win on Thursday evening could prove to be a springboard upon which their fortunes might be turned around.
