Palestine v UAE Tips – Hosts will struggle against Al-Abyad
Palestine's ambitions of making it to the World Cup finals will be severely tested on Tuesday
September 4th, 2015
Palestine face the UAE following a 6-0 hammering of Malaysia in June, putting them very much in contention for a finish in the top two in their qualifying group.
Having kicked-off their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 3-2 defeat to Saudia Arabia, the Palestinians will be in confident mood heading into this clash and they will feel that three points is a real possibility.
Only the side finishing top of the group will be guaranteed a place in the qualifying third round, although the second-placed finisher can go through as a best group runner-up. As such, Palestine will be fighting it out with Saudia Arabia and the UAE for one of these positions.
This is Palestine’s sixth attempt at qualifying for the World Cup finals and whilst we don’t anticipate them making it to Russia in three years time, they may make it through to the final round of qualifying.
First of all though, they need to get past the UAE who have tasted success in both of their qualifying games so far. They put ten past a hapless Maldives side in Abu Dhabi on Thursday without reply and will be hugely confident of brushing aside their opponents on Tuesday.
We certainly share their optimism. The UAE have splashed out on one of Asia’s most respected coaches and Mahdi Ali will be expected to deliver another emphatic win on Tuesday. With wins in all but four of their last fourteen outings, we’ll be expecting it too.
