Ligue 1 side Nice made headlines towards the end of the summer transfer window when they signed  former Liverpool player Mario Balotelli. Has the gamble paid off? It would certainly appear so with the controversial striker banging in two against Marseille in what was a thrilling match at the weekend.

Balotelli replaced another somewhat controversial figure in the form of Hatem Ben Arfa at Nice, however the winger rejuvenated his career whilst at the club and it will be hoped that Balotelli can do the same. Should he manage that, then Nice will certainly be a force to be reckoned with both domestically and in this season’s Europa League.

With Alessane Plea and Vincent Koziello in the ranks, the side have the capability for scoring goals galore and that’s what we’re expecting in Thursday evening’s Europa League match against Bundesliga outfit Schalke.

Nice may be particularly solid in defence at the moment, however managing clean sheets in domestic competition is a far cry from keeping the goals out in Europa League competition and the visitoring Schalke side can certainly cause a few problems for the hosts in this clash, especially so given that the Germans possess quality firepower in the form of Breel Emboli and Klaas Jan Huntelaar. These players will be spearheading the Schlakke attack and we believe that they will add to what looks set to be a high-scoring and thrilling fixture at the Allianz Riviera.

Our tip: Back over 2.5 goals at 11/10 with Ladbrokes
