Middlesbrough struggled through a dismal campaign and it was hardly a shock to see Aitor Karanka shown the door in March with Steve Agnew placed in the hot-seat in a caretaker capacity. Ultimately the job of keeping Boro in the Premier League was beyond Agnew and following a dismal spell in which just a single win was secured from eleven games, the search is now on for someone who might lift the Teessiders back into the top-flight.

Leeds United Garry Monk is the clear leader in the betting markets with Sky Bet going odds-on at 4/9 that he is in charge at the Riverside Stadium at the start of next season. Monk took charge at Elland Road last summer on a one-year deal and whilst many expected him to sign a new contract, this appears to have stalled due to the complete takeover of the club by current co-owner Andrea Radrizzani.

This could prove beneficial to Middlesbrough as they step up their search for a new gaffer and many would be delighted to see Monk take on the role in the new season. He isn’t the only name in the frame however with Ryan Giggs second favourite at 6/1 with Sky Bet to be in charge on the first day of 2017/18 although his price has drifted significantly in recent days. Nigel Pearson remains an outsider at 7/1 with the same bookmaker.
