Newport County v Plymouth Argyle – Third round awaits Pilgrims in FA Cup
Can Newport upset the form book when they face Plymouth in an FA Cup replay tonight? We think not!
December 21st, 2016
League Two leaders Plymouth Argyle face rock-bottom Newport County in tonight’s FA Cup action and we can only predict one outcome for this clash.
Newport County’s last home game against one of the League Two leaders came last month when they ended Carlisle United’s unbeaten run by winning 2-0 at Rodney Parade, however can the Exiles manage another such upset when they play host to high-flying Plymouth Argyle this evening?
The sides fought out a dismal goal-less draw in the original second round tie just over two weeks ago and the hosts will be confident of improving upon this with a win tonight, however we don’t share this confidence.
Indeed the last meeting between these two sides in south Wales ended in a 3-1 victory for the Pilgrims and with County sitting rock bottom of the League Two table following a poor start to their campaign, we firmly believe that their six-game winless run will be extended tonight.
Plymouth have suffered just five defeats in League Two this season while tonight’s hosts have secured for themselves a mere seventeen points as we approach the half-way stage of the campaign, this leaving them four points away from safety. Newport have suffered defeat in all-but-one of their last six outings and we feel that this poor run won’t be ending any time soon.
Indeed the Exiles have failed to score in their last four competitive matches while Plymouth have managed three back-to-back clean sheets heading into this clash, therefore we’ll be backing Plymouth to win-to-nil at odds of 10/3 with BetVictor.
