Newcastle United v Manchester City betting tips – Magpies can make a point
Alan Pardew has made some eye-catching signings and Newcastle could cause a surprise on Sunday
August 15th, 2014
Lots of new faces at St James’ Park this summer, with Remy Cabella, Siem de Jong and Emmanuel Riviere having arrived to give the attack a brand-new look.
Pre-season performances have been highly encouraging and this might not be a bad time to be facing a City team who were out of sorts when losing the Community Shield match by a 3-0 scoreline against Arsenal.
BetVictor offer 9/2 about Newcastle winning the game and, even if that’s too much of a punt, then the 11/4 about United on the Draw No Bet market could be worth taking which means money back if the game ends up in a draw.
Even so, Alan Pardew has lowered expectation levels among the Gallowgate faithful with his assertion that Newcastle should expect to be nothing more than a mid-table side this term.
Pardew said: “There is excitement, because we have bought quality this year. [After] Losing Cabaye last season, we had some offensive problems. But the proof is in the pudding.
“We are going to play a brand of football that the fans here expect. Towards the end of last year we didn’t have enough offensive players to put on the performances we used to.
“We now have a big squad, good quality. De Jong from Ajax, Cabella from France, Colback from just up the road. We have a good mix of players. It is a difficult agenda to get players good enough for playing on this stage. But we have been very on the ball with transfers.
“De Jong reminds me of Teddy Sheringham the way he conducts a game and conducts himself. I hope that will show in a game situation. If something else comes along that is right for us, then we have the scope to move. It depends if the finances are right.”
