Things change quickly in football, with Alan Pardew supposedly having his head on the chopping block against Hull City a month ago although the Toon Army aren’t calling for the manager to be sacked anymore.

Pardew has weathered an almighty storm to come out smelling of roses, with consecutive wins against Leicester, Spurs and Manchester City helping them up the Premier League table and into the last eight of the Capital One Cup.

How did it all click into place for Newcastle? Wednesday night’s win was especially surprising considering that there was no Tim Krul, Moussa Sissoko or Papiss Cisse in the starting line-up although they still managed to knock out the holders.

Ryan Taylor has returned after a massive injury lay-off and the Magpies have to be backed against a Liverpool side who drew 0-0 with Hull last weekend.

Boylesports offer 14/5 that Newcastle claim victory and you can expect those odds to be snaffled up before kick-off, with the bookies continuing to overstate Liverpool’s chances of victory on a week to week basis.

Brendan Rodgers saw his team come from behind to beat Swansea in the League Cup this week and he will hope it is the start of scoring spree for Mario Balotelli although Daniel Sturridge remains sidelined.

The defence still looks flimsy as far as the visitors are concerned and Liverpool head north at precisely the wrong time of the season.

This fixture finished in a 2-2 draw last season and it’s easy enough to see both teams finding the net in this match although we have to go for the in-form team playing at home.
