Newcastle United v Arsenal Tips – Another winless weekend in store for Magpies
It's more of the same for Newcastle this season as the Magpies seek their first Premier League win
August 27th, 2015
Steve McClaren was expected to deliver this season following his move to St James’ Park. He hasn’t.
A 4-1 win over League Two side Northampton Town in the League Cup aside, this has been a winless season so far after three Premier League games and it will likely be more of the same on Saturday afternoon against an Arsenal side which are amongst the favourites to win the title this season.
It could be argued that McClaren is getting into the groove of things slowly following a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford last weekend, however the Magpies were on the back foot for most of that match and to be fair were lucky to manage a point on that occasion.
Can their luck continue at home to the Gunners this weekend? We think not. It may be slightly unfair to put their draw at Old Trafford purely down to luck, however they received some good breaks from referee decisions on more than one occasion and were fortunate that the Red Devils’ incessant attacks ultimately came to nothing.
They will need more than luck against Arsenal, that’s for sure. Arsene Wenger has had to put up with seeing his side perform well below their real potential and he will be demanding a hugely improved performance against Newcastle this weekend.
Indeed, the Gunners come into this match on the back of a goal-less draw against Liverpool, a match which had its fair share of excitement despite the lack of goals which was certainly down to some excellent defence and goalkeeping from both teams.
Will this be another thrilling encounter? Perhaps, but only from an Arsenal fan’s point of view. Wenger will demand that his players come out fighting at St James’ Park on Saturday and Newcastle will have little answer to their firepower.
