Manchester United v Middlesbrough tips: Red Devils can make it five on the bounce
The Red Devils can end the year on a high when they entertain Middlesbrough on New Years' Eve
December 29th, 2016
Things are clearly starting to look up for Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho. The Old Trafford outfit were pretty unconvincing in the early stages of their 2016/17 campaign but they now enjoy an eleven-game unbeaten run in the Premier League following a 3-1 win over Sunderland and will certainly be confident of extending that run with a home victory over Middlesbrough this weekend.
The Teessiders are struggling at the moment with just four points separating them from the drop zone and there are many who confidently predict that they will be making the drop back to the Championship at the first time of asking. Indeed Saturday’s visitors to Old Trafford have managed just one point from their last three away matches and we’re not too confident of their chances of adding to this meagre tally when they travel to the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ this weekend.
Manchester United have been in top form at home since the start of the season with just a solitary defeat to arch-rivals Manchester City blemishing their record at Old Trafford and the bookmakers are pretty optimistic about the Red Devils’ chances of sealing a maximum points haul on Saturday afternoon with most firms going 1/4 on a home win.
Mourinho’s side sit four points short of the Premier League top-four and there is little reason to believe that they won’t keep the pressure on the leading pack on Saturday. The Teessiders have been struggling of late and we don’t envisage them heading home with much for their troubles. Aitor Karanka’s men have been quiet on the goal-front away from the Riverside and even a consolation effort at Old Trafford seems likely to evade them in their final outing of 2016.
