This is a big one, make no bones about it and all eyes will be on Old Trafford on Saturday evening as Manchester United look to bounce back from the 2-1 defeat they suffered at Swansea prior to the international break.

The Red Devils started the campaign in relatively convincing fashion with back-to-back 1-0 wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, however things stuttered to a halt with a 0-0 draw against Newcastle United and subsequent defeat at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium, leaving Louis van Gaal’s side some five points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester City.

With the saga surrounding David de Gea unresolved following the collapse of a proposed move to La Liga side Real Madrid, it remains unclear whether Van Gaal will choose the Spaniard for this match although without a first choice keeper, he could emerge from the shadows for this hugely important match.

Liverpool sit level on points with United, although a lack of goals will be a huge concern for manager Brendan Rodgers, especially so given that Philippe Coutinho will play no part in this fixture due to his suspension. Things will go from bad to worse for Rodgers should Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson fail to make full recoveries from injury.

The hosts will be without the services of Michael Carrick and Phil Jones and will be reliant on skipper Wayne Rooney to continue from where he left off for his country in the Euro 2016 qualifying games.

The Red Devils have a better head-to-head record over Liverpool at Old Trafford and with a superior choice of attacking talent, we expect the home side to dominate what will be a full-blooded clash. Indeed, failure to clinch full points in front of the home fans would almost certainly result in a large number of them turning on the manager.

No pressure then, Van Gaal!
