Manchester City v Sunderland tips – Debut victory for Guardiola
Guardiola will get his first taste of Premier League football this weekend when the Black Cats come to town.

Many applauded Manchester City’s decision to replace Manuel Pellegrini with Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola during the summer, however the timing of his appointment has been questioned. City failed to keep apace with the main Premier League title contenders at the business end of the season although they did add the 2015/16 Capital One Cup to their list of achievements. The big question is, can Guardiola add to these achievements in 2016/17?
The man’s credentials are hardly in doubt given that he steered Barcelona to two Champions League titles and three La Liga crowns as well as bringing the Bundesliga title to Bayern Munich on three occasions. Nevertheless he faces a huge challenge at Manchester City and despite spending in excess of £125million in a pre-season spending spree, there is no guarantee that this will reap the rewards which many expect it to.
The cash will continue to be splashed until the transfer window slams shut, however no new arrivals will be forthcoming prior to this weekend’s clash with a Sunderland side which can consider themselves lucky to still be plying their trade in the top-flight.
The Black Cats clung onto their Premier League status thanks to some excellent late-season results and their hopes for the new season will be pinned on new boss David Moyes following the departure of Sam Allardyce.
When one looks at Sunderland’s pre-season campaign, one can’t be too hopeful of their chances at the Etihad on Saturday evening and at odds of 1/5 for a City win the bookies aren’t too optimistic about the visitors’ chances either. Whilst these odds should provide a winning return, it’s pretty clear that you need to look elsewhere for some value and this comes by backing a City win and both teams to score at odds of 19/10 with BetVictor.
City are ruthless in attack, however their defence leaves a lot to be desired and with Vincent Kompany injured we feel that the Black Cats could sneak themselves a consolation goal in a losing effort this weekend.
As regards Manchester City scorers, one cannot really overlook Sergio Aguero with the Argentinian only just missing out on last season’s Premier League Golden Boot by one goal. He found the back of the net in two of City’s pre-season games and is great value at odds of 6/10 with William Hill to score anytime on Saturday.
Our Betting Tip: Back Aguero to score and Man City to win at 4/5 with Ladbrokes
