Manchester City v Liverpool preview – City will consolidate top-spot
Manchester City can overcome draw-specialists Liverpool to stay on top of the Premier League
November 19th, 2015
Saturday’s Premier League action concludes with the Sky Sports One-televised Manchester City v Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.
City head the table courtesy of goal-difference over Arsenal as we head into the weekend set of fixtures, however they will be knocked off pole position should the Gunners clinch maximum points earlier in the day at the Hawthorns.
Nevertheless, Manuel Pellegrini’s men boast an excellent record at the Etihad Stadium this season which has seen the side win all but one of their last thirteen home games and they will be confident of continuing their winning ways against the Reds this weekend.
The Citizens are now unbeaten in their last nine outings across all competitions and are coping very well in the continued absence of Sergio Aguero, the Argentinian missing for over a month but set to return this weekend following a hamstring injury.
Jurgen Klopp makes his first visit to the Etihad after seeing his previous side Dortmund play out a 1-1 draw at the stadium in the Champions League three years ago. His new side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at Anfield last time out, however Klopp will be confident of getting his second Premier League win with the Reds this weekend.
This really isn’t a great time for Liverpool to be facing the Premier League leaders, given that City will be welcoming back both Sergio Aguero and David Silva after their lengthy absences through injury. It remains to be seen whether they will feature from the outset, but either way we feel that the hosts will be too strong for a Liverpool side who have managed just three wins from their last nine outings in all competitions. The Reds are outsiders to win on Saturday, BetVictor going 19/4 for a Liverpool victory.
Indeed, Man City’s ruthless attack, along with Liverpool’s frailties in defence, would point us very firmly in the direction of a win for the hosts in a match which should have it’s fair share of goalmouth action.
With the fitness of Aguero still uncertain, Kevin De Bruyne could be asked to step up to the plate and with City’s record signing playing in a more forward position, we’ll be backing him to grab his seventh goal of the season, Sky Bet going 15/8 for De Bruyne to score anytime.
