City were utterly dominant in their 4-1 defeat of Sunderland in the third round of the Capital One Cup and a similar display this evening will pave the way for a place in the last eight of the competition.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have improved of late following two successive Premier League defeats to West Ham and Spurs, those results ending City’s excellent start to the campaign. Nevertheless, instead of heading into a downward spiral, the side bounced back with emphatic wins against both Newcastle United (6-1) and Bournemouth (5-1), thus ensuring that they remain at the top of the Premier League table, this position being strengthened when forcing rivals Manchester United to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.

Indeed, City will be full of confidence against a Crystal Palace side whose decent start to the season was halted by successive losses to West Ham and Leicester, these defeats sending the Eagles down from fourth to seventh in the league table.

Pardew’s side have been rather hit-or-miss this season, however their key strength under Pardew has been their away form, the side winning all but four of their 13 matches on the road since his arrival from Newcastle United earlier this year, including a shock 2-1 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

As such, Palace will be confident of advancing towards the business end of this competition at the expense of the home side, although they will certainly struggle against a City team who have been in tremendous form at home this season. Palace may possess an excellent record on the road but the hosts will have sufficient quality in the final third to create the chances which will ultimately put this match beyond the reach of the visitors.
