Manchester City are struggling to keep pace with Chelsea after just a handful of games, with an away win on Sunday afternoon meaning that the champions would be eight points off the pace.

It’s not a situation Manuel Pellegrini would have envisaged at the start of the campaign, although a home reverse against Stoke City was followed by a 2-2 draw at Arsenal.

City returned home from Germany on Wednesday night after a 1-0 defeat against Bayern Munich which was galling on the basis that a last minute goal was conceded and it was scored by former defender Jerome Boateng.

A response is required at the Etihad and odds of 6/4 are available about the Citizens winning this particular match, with Sergio Aguero set to return to the starting line-up after being rested for the game in Bavaria.

City fans will have been surprised to see the Argentine on the bench for that match although Aguero continues to be used sparingly by his manager and he can be backed at 6/1 to score the first goal of the game.

There is no sign of Stevan Jovetic which is a shame considering that the Montenegrin got off to such a flyer in front of goal, although there is the possibility that Yaya Toure will be promoted further up the field to be more effective.

Jose Mourinho produced a masterplan to win this fixture by a single goal last term and it could have been more as Chelsea exposed their opponents on the counter-attack to devastating effect.

The visitors are a 2/1 chance with virtually every bookie and it’s great to be with Chelsea based on their record against the other big teams, with Diego Costa returning to the starting line-up after sitting on the bench during the 1-1 draw against Schalke.
