Maidenhead United v Port Vale Tips – Valiants set to finish the job
Port Vale will be looking to finish the job in FA Cup replay
November 17th, 2015
Port Vale make the journey to Maidenhead on Thursday evening with their sights set on avoiding a cup upset. Indeed, there were many who firmly believed that this match shouldn’t have gone to a replay, however a late equaliser by Maidenhead denied the Valiants a place in the second round of the competition at the first time of asking.
Port Vale were the dominant team on that occasion and surged into the lead in the 31st minute courtesy of a Byron Moore goal, however they suffered the ignominy of conceding a goal four minutes into injury time.
The League One outfit head into this clash on the back of a 2-1 win against Barnsley and will be confident of completing the job against their non-league opponents, however the Tykes caused the Valiants no end of problems at the weekend and boss Robert Page was happy with his side’s performance and the manner in which they ground out a win.
“Great timings, of the goals, great timings. We see the half out, we go in, we address a few things at half time that we maybe paid them a little too much respect.” He said to the official club website.
“But it’s about getting that balance right of going and playing and being defensively solid and I thought we did it in parts first half. We came out second half, get the goal early doors, it’s two-nil and a totally different game then and it’s about being disciplined in your defending and keeping your shape.”
Maidenhead United are enjoying a successful National League South campaign and currently sit fifth in the table following eight wins and two draws. They lost 3-1 to Havant & Waterlooville at the weekend, however they will struggle against a Port Vale side who will be desperate to avoid any further slip-ups.
