Consecutive defeats against Aston Villa and West Ham suggest that all is not well at Anfield, with Liverpool needing 180 minutes and penalties to get over the line against Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.

Brendan Rodgers insists that his squad are simply experiencing teething problems although it’s increasingly apparent that Luis Suarez was vital to the success of the Reds last season and the departure of the Uruguayan leaves them picking up the pieces.

Sure, Mario Balotelli brings a different approach and Raheem Sterling should continue to improve, although the defence is faring little better with Dejan Lovren at the back and Simon Mignolet continues to look vulnerable between the sticks.

Therefore, we have no interest in backing Liverpool at odds-on this weekend, with BetVictor going 20/23 about a win for the Reds who will hope to have Daniel Sturridge back in the squad although a place on the sub’s bench looks most likely for the England man.

As for Everton, there is an eye-catching 7/2 with Coral that the Toffees record victory and Roberto Martinez’s team have been largely playing better football than their Merseyside rivals.

Mistakes at the back also led to the men in blue conceding three last weekend and the Spaniard also saw Everton go down 3-0 at the Liberty Stadium in the Capital One Cup, although previous performances were far brighter.

Seamus Coleman will be back for the Anfield clash, with John Stones, James McCarthy, Leighton Baines, Kevin Mirallas and Romelu Lukaku all back in the starting XI as Everton look to stun their opponents.

The visitors are overpriced for the match even if Ross Barkley continues to be absent from proceedings, with Everton sniffing blood after the first team were well beaten by West Ham last weekend.

At the very least, it is worth siding with the Toffees on the Double Chance market considering you can get Everton and the Draw at around the even money mark.
