Liverpool v Bournemouth Tips – Reds will clinch narrow win
Liverpool's best chance of silverware this season will be in this competition. Blow it and another dismal season lies in prospect for the lacklustre Reds.
October 26th, 2015
Jurgen Klopp now sits in the Liverpool hot-seat, although he has yet to taste victory with his new club and he will be eyeing this clash with Premier League new-boys Bournemouth as an ideal chance to get off the mark. Indeed, should Klopp have any ambitions of adding silverware to the Anfield trophy-cabinet then the Capital One Cup will surely give him the best chance of achieving this.
Liverpool have won this trophy nine times – more than any other club – needing penalties to see of Cardiff City in their most recent triumph in 2012. They can move ever closer to their tenth League Cup by defeating the Cherries at Anfield on Tuesday evening, however they need to put to an end a dismal run which has seen them held to 90-minute draws in all but one of their last nine outings.
Throughout October, the Reds have been held to stalemate by FC Sion, Everton, Spurs, Rubin Kazan and Southampton, teams which on paper they should have put to the sword, with the exception perhaps of Spurs. Prior to that, they needed extra-time and a full round of penalties to see off League Two side Carlisle United in the last round of this competition and they won’t be full of confidence against a Bournemouth side which haven’t quite been the Premier League whipping boys that many predicted before the start of the season.
Saying that, the Cherries will be licking their wounds following back-to-back 5-1 hammerings to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, although they will be confident of bouncing back against a Liverpool side to whom they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat earlier in the season, a match in which they had numerous chances to draw level or even win.
Bournemouth entered this competition in round two and swept past Hartlepool to the tune of 4-0, however we expect their participation to end on Tuesday night at Anfield. It won’t be by a huge margin however and we believe that the only goal of the game will be the decider, therefore we’ll be backing Liverpool to seal a second successive 1-0 victory over Bournemouth this season.
