Liverpool v Basel tips – Reds set to bomb out of Champions League
Steven Gerrard won’t rescue Liverpool against a talented Basel team
December 8th, 2014
Two fairly evenly-matched teams clash at Anfield on Tuesday night and the odds are well out of line based on the respective achievements of the clubs this season.
Basel are in the winning habit when it comes to the Swiss Super League and were somewhat unfortunate to lose 1-0 at home to Real Madrid in their last Champions League group game.
Indeed, while Liverpool have their Champions League destiny in their own hands, the same argument applies to Basel who simply need to avoid defeat and they will be in the hat for the knockout stages.
Paulo Sousa’s team beat Liverpool in the reverse fixture and won’t be daunted by going to Anfield considering the Reds only just squeezed past Ludogorets and were then beaten at home by a 3-0 scoreline against Real Madrid.
Indeed, BetVictor are now going 4/5 about a win for the home side and we might even see even money before kick-off as punters realise that the Merseyside outfit will have to come out and attack in this match.
It was something they were unable to do effectively on Saturday when drawing 0-0 with Sunderland while their opponents were winning 3-0 away to Lucerne.
Admittedly, there is a big difference in quality between the English Premier League and the Swiss Super League although Basel are experienced when it comes to European competition, having won at Stamford Bridge last term.
