Liverpool v Aston Villa Tips – A Reds win a must for Rodgers
An under-fire Brendan Rodgers will be very much in the firing line if the Reds fail to beat Villa this weekend
September 25th, 2015
It doesn’t look like it’s going to Liverpool’s season does it. No wins in their last six outings (not counting a penalty shoot-out) and Rodgers is looking increasingly looking like a dead man walking.
Indeed, the boss leading the Reds to the brink of the Premier League title is very much a distant memory and since that dramatic conclusion to the 2013/14 campaign, the pressure has been piling on the Northern Irishman’s shoulders as he battles to silence his growing number of critics.
These doubters are louder than ever before and will only increase should he fail in his bid to end a run of four Premier League games without a win when Aston Villa come to town on Saturday afternoon.
A win in the third round of the Capital One Cup ended with celebrations amongst the Anfield faithful, although it wasn’t the emphatic win that many expected and penalties were needed to see of a spirited Carlisle United side which had held them to a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.
This performance resulted in more criticism being aimed at the beleaguered boss and a win against a Villa side which have also been putting in some disappointing performances is a must on Saturday.
Can the Reds do it? We think that they can. Ok so they have failed to win any of their previous six outings in 90 minutes, although we expect them to take charge of this match. The passionate Anfield support will rally behind their team, although with a challenge for a Champions League spot looking very unlikely, another poor performance could see further pressure on Rodgers and would likely put him very much on course for his final meeting with the club owners.
