Leicester City v Spurs Tips – Three on the trot for the Foxes
Leicester can seal a third successive Premier League win this weekend
August 21st, 2015
Leicester City are looking for their third Premier League win of the season, Spurs are looking for their first. Who will seal the points at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon?
Prior to the start of the campaign, Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester would have seen their opening two matches as a chance to clinch a couple of points, perhaps four, however no-one really expected them to produce the sort of performances which has seen them clinch a maximum points haul.
Ranieri’s appointment was criticised in many quarters, however the Italian’s arrival would appear to have been a somewhat shrewd choice by the Foxes hierarchy and whilst doubts remain as to the side’s defensive capabilities, six goals in the first two Premier League matches is certainly a promising start.
Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and new signing Shinji Okazaki have been excellent in attack, while midfielder Gokhan Inler is certain to add plenty to a side which was expected to be amongst those fighting for survival.
This may yet prove to be the case, however the Foxes will be eager to maintain this momentum up to the upcoming international break. The club’s ambitions will remain realistic, however the more points they can grab prior to Christmas, the better.
This match will see the Foxes aiming for a fifth consecutive win at home and their sixth from just seven matches. Indeed, only Chelsea have managed to take something from the King Power Stadium since early April and this is indicative of the task facing Tottenham on Saturday.
Spurs have managed just a single point from their opening two games, however boss Mauricio Pochettini is insisting that panic hasn’t set in. Yet.
The Spurs boss is adamant that any judgement should be reserved until after the first ten games of the campaign, however they really must pick up something from this match should they wish to keep up with the Premier League title contenders.
They head into this match in the bottom half of the league table with speculation mounting as to possible signings and departures. Pochettino may be looking to strengthen his side, however this may hinder the team’s focus on the pitch.
Harry Kane will be under the spotlight, Pochettino admitting that the England international was far from full fitness at the weekend. He hasn’t enjoyed a fruitful pre-season, but Spurs need their star-player at his very best, and quickly.
Spurs’ quality in attack should provide enough pressure on the Leicester defence to produce a goal for the visitors, however the Foxes have scored nine goals in their previous two games at home and we wouldn’t be surprised to see them bombard the visitors in the early stages of the match. Will this be enough to seal the points for the hosts. We think yes!
