Leicester City v Club Brugge tips – Foxes to move towards last sixteen
Leicester City's domestic worries will be put to one side on Tuesday evening
November 21st, 2016
Only two points separate Claudio Ranieri’s men from the bottom three after twelve Premier League games, a far cry from Leicester City’s title-winning exploits of last season. Nevertheless they will put this firmly to one side as they prepare to make a move into the knockout stages of the 2016/17 Champions League on Tuesday evening.
Domestically the Foxes may be in the doldrums but they are punching well above their weight in Europe’s top club competition. Group G may be far from the toughest group in the competition but nevertheless Ranieri’s men have given a thoroughly excellent account of themselves and have confounded the critics who confidently predicted that they would be the first English team to exit the competition.
That is far from the case and of the 32 teams in the tournament, only Atletico Madrid have amassed more points from their opening four matches. An opening 3-0 win over Club Brugge was followed by another win over FC Porto and the subsequent two games over Copenhagen saw Leicester City add a further four points to their total. We’re firmly of the opinion that another three will be added on Tuesday evening.
It has been an often-quoted fact that Leicester were 5000/1 to win the Premier League title at the start of 2015/16 and that the bookies took a bit of a hammering when they shocked the football world by actually winning it. Ranieri’s men are a more modest 40/1 to be crowned European champions although we don’t for a second envisage that they will go all the way in this season’s Champions League. We’re in little doubt however that they can move comfortably into the last sixteen and the bookmakers feel exactly the same way with most firms going as low as 1/7 that finish atop Group G and 1/1000 that they qualify for the knockout stages.
Clearly Leicester’s focus will be solely on Tuesday evening’s clash and Ladbrokes go a modest 1/2 that the Foxes seal the three points against Brugge at the King Power Stadium. The Belgians have scored just once in their four Champions League matches so far this term and we don’t believe that they trouble the Leicester defence too much on Tuesday night. As such, it is a pretty easy decision to back the Foxes to win-to-nil this week at 11/8 with BetVictor.
