Hull City v Manchester City tips: No Boxing Day blues for high-flying Citizens
Pep Guardiola's men will be confident of making it three-on-the-bounce on Boxing Day
December 19th, 2016
December didn’t exactly start well for Manchester City with back-to-back Premier League defeats to both Chelsea and Leicester City. Guardiola demanded an immediate response and he certainly got it with wins against Watford and Arsenal.
“Seven points is a huge distance, they [Chelsea] made 11 victories in a row so I just want to say congratulations for that,” the City boss said following the 2-1 win over the Gunners. “But at least [we want] to be there as much as possible, waiting for the opponent to fail sometimes and waiting for the last part of the season to be there and fight for the title.”
City may be confident of challenging Chelsea in the race for this season’s Premier League title, however to do so they must extend this winning run and they have an excellent chance to do just that when they face struggling Hull City on Boxing Day.
The troubles surrounding Hull City have been well documented elsewhere and Mike Phelan has had a difficult task as he attempts to keep the Tigers clear of the relegation zone. He has failed thus far and with Hull sitting at the foot of the Premier League table as things stand, it would take a brave man to bet against the side making the drop back to the Championship at the end of their troubled campaign.
Their woes won’t be eased on Boxing Day and whilst Manchester City may not have been at their most impressive of late, they have enjoyed some excellent form away from the Etihad with wins in six of their eight Premier League games on the road.
Nevertheless odds of 7/20 on an away win hardly appeal, therefore we’ll be recommending backing Manchester City to win and both teams to score at 7/4 with BetVictor. The Tigers have failed to score in all but one of their last four outings but they have been more prolific in front of goal at the KCOM Stadium, therefore we fancy their chances of finding the net against a Man City defence which have leaked away goals to the likes of Burnley, Swansea City and Crystal Palace.
At the other end, Kevin De Bruyne would appear the standout bet as far as a visiting goalscorer is concerned. The Belgian was the star in the win over the Gunners last week and whilst he may not have banging them in for fun of late, we feel that he will find few problems finding a way past a Tigers defence which have leaked some 36 goals this season already.
