Huddersfield Town v Southampton Preview & Tips
Can the Terriers extend their excellent winning run when they host Southampton on Saturday afternoon?
August 25th, 2017
Huddersfield have thus far been the surprise package in the 2017/18 Premier League although has their perfect start to the season really been such a shock? The Terriers were lucky to face a Crystal Palace side in a state of utter confusion in their opening game and a dishevelled and disheartened Newcastle United outfit were hardly expected to offer too much in the way of serious opposition in their subsequent outing.
One things is for certain, David Wagner’s men will be facing far tougher assignments from this point onward and they will get their first real taste of life in the top-flight when they host Southampton this weekend. Mauricio Pellegrino’s Saints were unspectacular but solid in their opening game against Swansea City but they impressed as an attacking outfit when facing West Ham United in their last Premier League outing.
They came out firing on all cylinders in that match and dominated utterly over their opponents in the first half before letting concentration slip after the break and allowing the Hammers back into the game. Pellegrino won’t have been too happy about this second-half lapse but there were certainly plenty of positives to take from Southampton’s performance and they are worthy favourites to collect all three points this weekend at odds of 11/10.
This is a fair but slightly slim price on the visitors and as such we’ll be backing a repeat of the outcome from last week’s match and going for a Saints victory with Manolo Gabbiadini finding the back of the net at some point at odds of 11/4.
The Italian striker hit the woodwork in the clash with Swansea City but scored in the opening eleven minutes against the Hammers last weekend and he will be confident of adding to his tally by scoring on Saturday afternoon. We share his confidence.
