Honduras v French Guiana Preview & Tips
Honduras and French Guiana will both be aiming to bounce back from Gold Cup opening-day defeats
July 11th, 2017
Honduras and French Guiana suffered disappointing defeats in their respective opening-day 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup matches and they will be desperate to kick-start their campaigns by registering much-needed wins when they go head-to-head on Wednesday.
A second defeat for either side would lead them ever closer to exiting the competition without a fight, therefore the pressure is very much on in this match. Honduras haven’t won any of their last six matches following the dismal 1-0 defeat to Costa Rica last weekend at the Red Bull Arena with Marcus Urena scoring the only goal of the match to give the Costa Ricans the three points. As such, Honduras have won just once in their nine matches since their success in the Copa Centroamericana a few months’ ago and they really need to run things around.
For their part, French Guiana have fared slightly better of late with a 4-2 defeat to Canada ending a six-game unbeaten run. They went 3-0 down to the Canadians but fought back to make the scoreline a more respectable 3-2 before Canada made certain of the three points by finding the net for a fourth time.
Whilst there were plenty of positives from the opening games upon which to focus, both sides realise the importance of this match and with plenty left to play for we should expect an attacking display from both nations, however Honduras have the edge in terms of quality and this should prove to be the difference when the sides face each other this week. Expect a consolation goal for French Guiana though.
