Germany v Mexico Preview & Tips
World champions Germany can take a step closer to another major tournament win when they take on Mexico on Thursday
June 27th, 2017
Make no bones about it, this is going to be an exciting and action-packed match between the world champions and El Tri, both teams heading into the fixture on the back of some truly impressive recent form. 2005 was the last time these sides met with the Germans winning 4-3 after extra-time to clinch third-place in that season’s Confederations Cup and the Mexicans will be looking to exact their timely revenge.
Will we see the same outcome on Thursday or will Mexico get that revenge? One has to fancy the Germans on this occasion, given that they are undefeated in their last thirteen games with seven points from their three Confederations Cup group games. Lars Stindl has been the stand-out player in Joachim Low’s new-look squad and while he was rested in the win over Cameroon, we envisage him playing a crucial role in a German victory on Thursday.
As for Mexico, they have also impressed of late with just a solitary defeat in sixteen games. They needed to fight their way from behind in each of their group games and ultimately finished second on goal-difference to Portugal in Group A. This level of commitment will almost certainly see them find a way through a German defence which have conceded in each of their games so far in the tournament, although as regards a victor we’re finding it hard to look past the world champions in Sochi on Thursday.
