Fulham v Barnsley tips: Cottagers to enjoy upper-hand at Craven Cottage
Fulham and Barnsley fight it out in a mid-table clash on Saturday afternoon
January 12th, 2017
Both Fulham and Barnsley were once Premier League sides but neither look likely to make a return to the top-flight any time soon. The Tykes sit four points adrift of the Championship play-offs with Fulham a mere two points behind, however looking at recent form they both look resigned to the fact that they’ll be spending another season in the second tier.
Barnsley head into this weekend’s clash on that back of a league win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground and this victory was followed by a goal-less draw with League Two side Blackpool in the third round of the FA Cup at Bloomfield Road, however the Cottagers are certain to present the visitors with a far tougher challenge at Craven Cottage this weekend.
Fulham have been a mixed bag of late. They kicked off their season with a seven-match unbeaten run across all competitions, this including league wins over Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End and Newcastle United as well as a victory over Premier League side Middlesbrough in the second round of the EFL cup. They have since struggled to maintain any consistency although their home form makes for better reading with a six-game unbeaten run prior to their 2-1 defeat to Brighton in their first game of 2017.
This excellent run included 5-0 wins over promotion-chasing sides Huddersfield Town and Reading and such form cannot be ignored. Fulham can take on anyone when at their best this season and whilst this should prove to be a very closely fought affair, the hosts should have the edge in front of their own supporters.
