Chelsea got their Champions League caampaign off to a flying start by thrashing Maccabi Tel Aviv 4-0 in their opening match and they head into this fixture on the back of a four-match unbeaten run. That isn’t the full story however – Maccabi Tel Aviv weren’t expected to prove tough opposition, whilst Walsall were swept aside in the Capital One Cup and a nine-man Arsenal side were beaten in the Premier League. Not too much to write home about then.

Add to this an uninspiring 2-2 draw against Newcastle United after going 2-0 down and the pressure is very much on Chelsea to improve their game dramatically in Porto tomorrow night. The Blues may have fought their way back in impressive style at St James’ Park, however Mourinho was not shy in his criticism following the game.

“In the first half, from 0-10, we were minus one – it was that bad,” he moaned. “We were so poor, so bad. At half-time I said I was sorry I only had three subs as I wanted to change six. In the second half we played very well. I have to try to understand why they can play so bad in one half and so well in the other. We were bad in every aspect of the game in the first half. Too many poor individual performances and it was impossible to be a competitive team.”

As a result of the weekend’s match, Bet365 make the Blues 2/1 to triumph on Wednesday evening with Porto 17/10 and a draw 23/10. We’ll be avoiding this market however and whilst Chelsea could turn up and fight their way to maximum points, they may also settle for a draw or return home with nothing for their troubles. Indeed, we fancy the hosts to get something from this fixture and a Porto win/draw looks a good bet at 2/5 with Winner.

Another tempting option is Both Teams to Score at 10/11 with Bet365. Chelsea have found the net in all but one of their last nine competitive matches although their defence has been far less impressive. The rearguard may have kept out Tel Aviv and nine-man Arsenal but they will struggle against a Porto side which can boast Vincent Aboubakar, the striker scoring seven goals in his last eight outings.

Porto win/draw – Winner  2/5

Both Teams to Score – Bet365  10/11
