Europa League tips – We bring you our top six picks for tonight’s action
We bring you our selection of the best bets on tonight's Europa League action
September 29th, 2016
The opening round of the Europa League group stage provided us with some shock results with Dundalk managing a point at AZ Alkmaar, Manchester United losing to Feyenoord, Southampton sweeping past Sparta Prague and Hapoel Be’er Sheva putting two past Inter Milan without reply.
This week, out six picks involve Dundalk v Maccabi Tel Aviv, Sparta Prague v Inter Milan, Ajax v Standard Liege, Athletic Bilbao, Fenerbahce v Feyenoord and FC Schalke v Salzburg.
Picking winners amongst the offering available this evening would be daunting even for the most seasoned punter, however fear not for we at Footballscores.com have selected what we believe to be the six best picks for the Thursday evening action.
Here they are…
Dundalk v Maccabi Tel Aviv
Dundalk can be proud of themselves for returning from AZ Alkmaar with a point for their troubles and whilst Maccabi Tel Aviv are enjoying some decent form at the moment, the hosts will be boosted by what is a pretty partisan and vocal home support desperate to witness a decent European run for their side.
Ajax v Standard Liege
Ajax have recorded victories over Vitesse Arnhem, Panathinaikos, Heracles Almelo and PEC Zwolle since the start of September with ten goals scored and just two in reply. As such they will be brimming with confidence ahead of tonight’s clash with a Standard Liege outfit which currently sit third in the Belgian top-flight.
Back Ajax to win-to-nil at 9/5 with Boylesports
Sparta Prague v Inter Milan
Southampton hammered Sparta to the tune of 3-0 in their last European outing and the Czechs now face the might of Inter Milan. The Serie A side stumbled against Hapoel Be’er Sheva in their last Europa League match although since then they have embarked on a three game unbeaten run, this including a 2-1 win over Juventus and as such, we believe that they will run out as easy winners tonight.
FC Schalke v Salzburg
FC Schalke may have made it into the Europa League but they are clearly out of their depth this season in the Bundesliga where they currently sit firmly at the foot of the table. They swept past Nice in their opening Europa League match although we feel that they will stumble against a Salzburg side which have banged in eleven goals in their last three outings.
Back Salzburg to win-to-nil at 17/2 with Paddy Power
Athletic Bilbao v Rapid Vienna
Bilbao will be desperate to bounce back from their 3-0 defeat to Sassuolo in their opening European match and their recent home form should see them seal the points, especially so since their weekend win over Sevilla will have boosted their confidence no end. We’ll be backing the home side to edge what should prove to be a goal-filled encounter.
Back Bilbao to win and over 2.5 goals at 6/5 with Coral
Fenerbahce v Feyenoord
Feyenoord are unstoppable in the Dutch top-flight this season, an indication that they are either an extremely strong outfit or perhaps that the Eredivisie is a one-horse race this season. The win over Manchester United would suggest that the former is the case and whilst Fenerbahce are no slouches themselves, we’ll be backing the away side to seal the three points in what should be a pretty tight encounter.
