This is very much Sevilla’s competition, the Spanish side having triumphed in both of the last two seasons as well as 2005/06 and 2006/7. Should they win this evening in Basel, they would join Bayern Munich in the record books as one of only two sides to have won the competition three times in succession.

Standing in their way however is Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp’s men taking part in their second major final since the start of the season. The Reds came up short when they faced Manchester City in the Capital One Cup final, a penalty shoot-out separating the sides at Wembley on that occasion. They have another shot at glory in the Europa League tonight however with success providing them with an entry into the Champions League next season.

The stakes are clearly high, however the Reds won’t be fazed in the slightest, given that they have proven their mettle already in the competition by brushing aside Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal on their way to the final. Nevertheless, neither side will be in any doubt as to the difficulty of this clash, although Liverpool should be able to withstand anything that the Spanish side can throw at them.

Jurgen Klopp is already starting to make his mark at Anfield and the summer signings will present him with more opportunities to lift the side to a higher level. Saying that, our confidence in the Reds tonight is based more on Sevilla’s dreadful record away from home. The La Liga outfit have failed to win on the road in the Spanish top-flight this term and have suffered defeat in all of their Champions League away matches.

Sevilla have triumphed just once in their Europa League away games and this doesn’t inspire us into backing them tonight. The Reds start this game as 13/10 favourites to win in ninety minutes with Paddy Power and 7/10 with BetVictor to lift the trophy. These may not seem like great odds, however they should return some winnings, although for those looking for meatier prices, we would suggest backing a Liverpool win and both teams scoring at 4/1 with Ladbrokes. The Reds have managed to keep a few clean sheets recently, however they do concede away from Anfield and we wouldn’t be shocked in the slightest should the Spaniards get their name onto the scoresheet this evening.
