England v Russia betting tips – back Three Lions to enjoy handsome win
England should beat a Russia side missing key personnel and likely to play for a draw
June 9th, 2016
England supporters are refusing to get their hopes raised for Euro 2016 although that might change after Saturday evening’s game against Russia.
The Three Lions qualified for the tournament in style and also got into the winning habit against Turkey, Australia and Portugal, even if the manner of those victories weren’t convincing.
Roy Hodgson doesn’t necessarily have a squad of world beaters at his disposal, although the bulk of the squad represent the top Premier League clubs and that certainly applies to the starting XI this weekend.
Harry Kane, Wayne Rooney and Jamie Vardy will all be accommodated, with Eric Dier sitting in front of the defence and Dele Alli sitting alongside either James Milner or Jack Wilshere.
Defensively, much has been written about England being porous although whether Russia can breach a defence featuring Gary Cahill or Chris Smalling is another matter.
Alan Dzagoev and Igor Denisov are missing, with Artyom Dzyuba likely to be the main scoring threat for a Russian side who qualified behind Austria after recovering from Fabio Capello’s ill-fated reign.
The Russian defence is an ageing one and it could creak against an England side looking to move the ball fast through the ranks, with a replication of that performance against Germany the ideal.
The English should enjoy plenty of possession and we expect them to win this clash with something to spare.
