England v Estonia Preview – Three Lions can maintain perfect record
A home win for England is very much on the cards when Estonia come to town on Friday
October 6th, 2015
Roy Hodgson’s side have enjoyed eight wins from eight matches with qualification for next year’s Euro finals being a certainty, however the Three Lions won’t be slowing down as they prepare to face Estonia at Wembley on Friday evening.
Even when it looked possible that England may slow the pace and treat the last few matches as little more than friendlies, they maintained their perfect record in the qualifying campaign by sweeping past Switzerland 2-0 with goals coming from Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney.
The last meeting between these sides saw Estonia reduced to ten men and a Rooney goal was the only thing to separate the sides in Tallinn.
That match was somewhat memorable for being the fixture in which Raheem Sterling is alleged to have told the England manager that he felt too tired to take part, however the Manchester City winger has since denied this rumour.
Hodgson can be forgiven for introducing an element of experimentation into the remaining qualifying games, although he has a duty to take them extremely seriously as results could seriously affect the rest of the group.
Estonia can still manage a place in the top three of the group, however they very much need to rely on other results, not least that at Wembley on Thursday where the hosts will be desperate to maintain their perfect record. Indeed, what better way to go through to the final than with a perfect ten.
Hodgson will be looking from a better display from captain Wayne Rooney than he has been churning out for his club this season and we believe that he can continue adding to his record-breaking England goalscoring feat this week.
