England U21 v Poland U21 Preview & Tips
A place in the semi-finals of the European U21 Championships will be England's if they beat Poland on Thursday evening
June 21st, 2017
England sit proudly at the top of Group A with four points to their name and should they manage three points from their meeting with tournament hosts Poland on Thursday evening they will proceed into the semi-finals of the competition. Their remit therefore is pretty simple – win the match.
On paper this should be a reasonable enough outcome to expect given that the Young Lions are in pole position in their group and Poland sit firmly at the bottom with just a solitary point to show for their efforts so far. Indeed England have been impressive in their performances, especially in the manner of their comeback against Slovakia after being a goal behind to subsequently win 2-1.
Nathan Redmond scored the winning goal on that occasion and his experience was crucial as the Young Lions took a step further towards a place in the semis, therefore we believe that he is worth backing to continue this excellent form by scoring against Poland on Thursday evening.
The two previous meetings between England and Poland have both ended in victory for England by at least two goals and we envisage Aidy Boothroyd’s boys enjoying another relatively easy victory this week.
Poland have underperformed so far in this tournament and they will be looking anxiously at the other group match between Slovakia and Sweden. Should this end all-square, then a Poland victory could be enough to send them into the top-two in the group, however we believe that the hosts will come unstuck against a Young Lions side which will be brimming with confidence on Thursday evening.
