Eintracht Frankfurt v Borussia Dortmund Preview and Tips
Will Borussia Dortmund put a disappointing campaign behind them by winning the DFB Pokal on Saturday evening?
May 22nd, 2017
Borussia Dortmund have been far from impressive this season and they failed miserably to make any sort of impact on the Bundesliga title race. Indeed they only just crept into the top-three at the eleventh hour thanks to a 2-1 victory over Hoffenheim and looked set to drop out of the Champions League berths in their final game of the season when they went 3-2 down against Werder Bremen with 20 minutes left on the clock. Two subsequent penalties saved the day and Dortmund finished the season with a two-point lead over fourth-placed Hoffenheim, however can Thomas Tuchel’s men follow up this relative success by winning the German Cup this weekend?
Borussia knocked rivals Bayern Munich out of the tournament courtesy of a 3-2 win last month and only Eintracht Frankfurt stand between them and cup glory. Frankfurt finished their season with a whimper following three defeats and a draw, therefore we’re far from confident about their chances of adding to their trophy cabinet this season. Indeed whilst Frankfurt managed a 2-1 win over Dortmund in November, the most recent meeting between the sides ended in a 3-1 victory to Borussia and we’ll be expecting more of the same this time around.
Tuchel’s men should dominate from the outset and as far as goalscorers are concerned we’ll be looking to Aubameyang to add to the scoreline by banging in the opening goal this weekend. The Dortmund striker scored a brace against Werder Bremen in his last outing and with 18 goals scored in his last 17 games, we wouldn’t be shocked to see him break the deadlock against Frankfurt.
