Derby County v Birmingham City tips: Rams can return to winning ways on Tuesday
Steve McClaren's Rams can enjoy another productive day at Pride Park on Tuesday afternoon
December 26th, 2016
A mere seventeen months after leaving Pride Park, Steve McClaren walked back through the doors to manage his former club once again and since his return in October the Rams have lost just once and embarked upon an excellent seven-game winning run which was only ended last weekend with a 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage. Hardly surprisingly confidence will be sky-high in the Derby camp and McClaren will be demanding another positive result tomorrow afternoon when the side welcome Birmingham City to Pride Park.
McClaren’s men have failed to concede on home soil in their last six games and they will be confident of securing for themselves a fifth successive win-to-nil, therefore it is hardly a massive surprise to see them start as odds-on favourites with Bet365 going 7/10 on a Rams victory.
McClaren has made his side very hard to break down as demonstrated by their numerous clean sheets of late. Eight goals were leaked in the four home Championship games prior to McClaren’s arrival, however none have been conceded at Pride Park since then and this must be credited to their new boss. As such, we’ll be recommending a Derby win-to-nil at odds of 13/8 with Paddy Power.
The visitors will nevertheless be looking to take the game to the Rams and new City boss Gianfranco Zola will be desperate to clinch his first win since replacing Gary Rowett as manager following the latter’s controversial sacking. Zola’s first game in charge ended in a 2-1 defeat to high-flying Brighton and with just a single win in their last seven away games, we don’t believe that the Blues will manage anything whatsoever from their afternoon in the East Midlands.
