Crystal Palace v Sunderland tips – tight game on the cards
Black Cats looking to shut up shop at Selhurst Park on Monday night
November 2nd, 2014
Monday evening’s match between Palace and Sunderland doesn’t look to be one for the purists, with Neil Warnock and Gus Poyet desperately looking for points at the foot of the Premier League table.
Only Burnley and QPR sit below the Black Cats who have endured a largely miserable start to the season, with Poyet looking to arrest the sort of form which will see Sunderland return to the Championship after performing a great escape from the drop last term.
The Uruguayan is still a few games away from the dreaded vote of confidence although an 8-0 drubbing at St Mary’s could bear psychological scars, with more defensive mistakes leading to a 2-0 defeat at home to Arsenal.
Sunderland’s four road matches this season have resulted in two draws and two defeats so we can’t back them at any price to win this particular encounter, with Coral going 3/1 about the visitors claiming three points.
Poyet will instead be focusing on keeping clean sheets based on recent performances, with Vitor Mannone potentially making way between the sticks, while a compact shape will be necessary based on the last away game.
Crystal Palace will regard this game as a golden chance to go four points clear of the drop zone, having come close to landing the spoils at The Hawthorns when leading 2-0 only to draw in controversial circumstances.
However, the Eagles are without a win in their last three and any victory is likely to be a slender margin considering determined opponents will be out to land a point at the very least.
