Crystal Palace v Stoke City tips: Back-to-back wins for Eagles
Another defeat beckons for the Potters on Sunday afternoon
September 15th, 2016
If Stoke thought that the start to last season was bad enough, then this one has been even worse. The Potters sit firmly at the bottom of the Premier League table with just a single point to their name thanks to a draw with Middlesbrough on the opening day of the new season. Since then they have suffered back-to-back defeats to Manchester City, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur with the result that manager Mark Hughes will be a worried man.
One could argue that it took the Potters until the end of September 2015 to clinch their first win of last season and Stoke went on to finish a creditable ninth in the final league table, however we don’t envisage three points for the visitors this weekend when they head to Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace may not have enjoyed the best of starts to their own campaign but they are clearly a force to be reckoned with given that they possess some notable talent within their ranks such as Andros Townsend, Wilfried Zaha, Christian Benteke and Yohan Cabaye. Mathieu Flamini has now been added to the squad and manager Alan Pardew will be tasked with the job of moulding this abundance of individual quality into an effective unit.
The signs were there that this was being achieved when Palace saw off Middlesbrough last weekend to the tune of 2-1 at the Riverside, this being their first Premier League win of the season. As such they will be brimming with confidence ahead of what is an easily winnable match against a struggling Potters side.
It may not be a totally one-sided affair and we expect the visitors to at least get onto the scoresheet, however this has all the makings of a home win which could propel the Eagles into the top half of the league table.
