Crystal Palace v Southampton tips: No soaring for the Eagles this weekend
Southampton should enjoy an easy three points at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon
December 2nd, 2016
Crystal Palace looked to have thrown themselves a lifeline at the weekend as they headed into the final few minutes of their clash with Swansea City with a 4-3 lead, however Swans sub Fernando Llorente had other ideas and banged in two for the home side in the space of three minutes to seal a valuable win for the south Wales outfit.
Can the Eagles bounce back from this disappointing result with a win in south London on Saturday afternoon? Victory would certainly take the pressure off under-fire manager Alan Pardew as he finds himself under ever-increasing pressure to deliver. Palace sit just above the relegation zone with goal difference keeping them out of the bottom three and it is a worrying fact that the Eagles have secured less points than any other top-flight side in 2016. Indeed Pardew himself admitted that his team’s defensive deficiencies are the cause of many of the problems although just what he intends to do about that are somewhat unclear.
The Eagles have so many problems going on that there is little chance that any of them will be fixed in time for this weekend’s clash at Selhurst Park. Southampton will be in very high spirits following their 2-0 midweek EFL Cup win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and whilst Crystal palace have scored ten times in their previous five outings, this recent proficiency in front of goal has added no points to their meagre total for the season so far. Should they manage to get on the scoresheet this weekend, this would almost certainly be purely consolatory.
The Saints edged past Everton in their last Premier League match with a single goal determining where the points ended up and we believe that Claude Puel’s side will enjoy a more emphatic win in south London this weekend.
