Neither side has exactly set the Premier League alight so far, indeed neither side was expected to. Nevertheless, both Alan Pardew and Tim Sherwood will be confident of sealing the points in what looks set to be an extremely tight match.

Crystal Palace finished last season in the top half of the table, no mean feat for a side which was widely tipped to be fighting against relegation. Pardew’s move from Newcastle United certainly saw matters improve and the Eagles boss will be hopeful that his team can return to winning ways once again.

Nevertheless, Pardew’s main area of concern last season was his side’s home form – Palace managing just six of their thirteen Premier League victories at home – and judging by the opening two games, this could be a cause for concern this term too.

Palace opened their campaign with a convincing 3-1 win away to Norwich City, however this was followed by a 2-1 defeat at home to Arsenal. Ok so we’re just two matches into the campaign, however these early games can easily set the tone for the rest of the season and the Eagles desperately need to improve their form at Selhurst Park should they wish to better last season’s 10th place finish.

The visit of Villa gives Palace the chance to do just that. The Villans opened their campaign with a narrow 1-0 win against new-boys Bournemouth, however boss Tim Sherwood has insisted that there must be a considerable improvement should his side wish to avoid being dragged into another relegation scrap.

Villa lost 20 Premier League games last season, only relegated QPR losing more. Twelve of these defeats were on the road so Sherwood will be anxious to maintain his 100% away record so far this term.

Will they manage it? Probably not. Palace may not always show their best form at Selhurst Park but Villa are far from the strongest side away from home. The Eagles are extremely capable of scoring goals this season and this will prove the difference between the sides in this match.
